Google-Motorola deal approved by Chinese regulators

Googlerola

Regulators in China have approved the multi-billion dollar purchase of Motorola Mobility by Google. The particulars have already been approved in the US and elsewhere, and China has been the lone holdout. With that bit of dirty business behind them, the deal can now go forward. In statements released to Bloomberg Motorola and Google both confirm the news, and are looking forward to getting the loose ends tied up in short order.

We expect things to stay unchanged between Google and Motorola, as we've heard numerous times that Motorola will remain an independent entity. Only time will let us know how that turns out. It will be an interesting summer, that's for sure.

iZettle begins testing its mobile payment service in the UK

After pretty much conquering Nordic markets, iZettle is going for the rest of Europe. Their first stop is UK, where the mobile payments company is currently organizing an invite only beta programme with MasterCard, American Express and Diners Club.

Under the scheme, users are invited to download iZettle’s free app and request an invitation or sign-up via iZettle’s UK website. iZettle is looking for a wide spread of users to ensure it tests the service with all kinds of businesses and individuals using it for different purposes. It has 3000 mini chip-card readers to give away.

Again — if you missed our previous posts on iZettle — it lets anyone take credit or debit card payments with an iPhone. The system is simple to set up and use, and makes it easy to share purchases with Facebook friends. Moreover, iZettle has no setup or monthly fees – you pay only a percent of the sale…

Dolphin Browser scores pre-install deal with Japan’s KDDI

Dolphin Browser scores pre-install deal with Japan's KDDI

Dolphin Browser, which is already the single most used third-party web browser for Android and iOS platforms (and my favorite browser in case you ask), is turning to East for further expansion. The company announced a pre-install deal with Japan’s major mobile operator – KDDI.

As a result, Dolphin Browser will be pre-loaded on future, un-released Android-based phones, allowing Japanese smartphone subscribers to easily download Dolphin Browser for free through KDDI’s mobile app store, au Smart Pass, which has over 1 million members.

Dolphin Browser has been download for more than 16 million times and with this new partnership, we’re pretty sure they’ll double the user base in no time at all. Although KDDI’s app store has “just” 1 million members, its customer base counts 30 million users…
